The Town of Buchanan, located in the southeastern portion of Outagamie County, is a unique blend of rural and urban development which was established in 1858. Darboy, as much of the Town is commonly known, is an unincorporated community. The Darboy name stems from a post office that was established in 1877 and named after French Archbishop Georges Darboy.
We have experienced considerable growth since our establishment particularly during the past decade, increasing from a population of 5,827 in 2000 to a population of 6,821 as of January 1, 2023. Much of our development has occurred within the boundaries of the Darboy Joint Sanitary District, which was created in the 1980's to provide urban services to the newly developing areas.
The Town encompasses a land area of approximately 16.9 square miles or nearly 10,800 acres and shares a common boundary with seven other municipalities as a part of the Heart of the Valley. The Town's ease of access to major highways such as STH 441 and County Highways KK (Calumet St.) and CE (College Ave.) provides for a growing and desirable commercial and industrial area while also being easily accessible to our unique blend of urban and rural residences. Buchanan is a thriving and prosperous community that is "the place" for living in the Fox Cities. The community is known for its spirit of neighborliness, compassion, cooperation and mutual respect for all.
