Comprehensive Plan 2040 Update
On April 17, 2007, the Town Board adopted a comprehensive plan under Section 66.1001 of the Wisconsin Statutes which is called, Town of Buchanan Comprehensive Plan. The comprehensive plan was prepared in accordance with a public participation plan adopted by the Town Board that included activities to foster public participation in the preparation of the comprehensive plan. Under Section 66.1001(4)(a) of the Wisconsin Statutes, future amendments or updates to the comprehensive plan must also be carried out in accordance with a public participation plan, adopted by the Town Board, designed to foster public participation in the amendment/update process.

Draft Year Comprehensive Plan Update:
- In 2016, the Town contracted with the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission to initiate a formal update of the Town's existing comprehensive plan. During the spring of 2017, the Town hosted a Public Visioning Session to obtain input from the general public on key community interests that were used to identify major issues. A Public Visioning Portal was also available to solicit additional input. The Town’s website was updated during the planning process, Plan Commission meetings were open to the public, and public was welcome to provide comment. Now after working with the consultant for more than a year, the Town the Year 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update is ready for public review and comment. A public informational meeting on the plan will be held prior to the May 14, 2018 Plan Commission meeting. The Plan Commission meeting, which begins at 7:00 p.m. will include a public hearing on the Plan. It is anticipated that the Plan Commission will take action on the Plan at this meeting. The Town Board is expected to action on the plan at its May meeting. Once adopted, this plan will be used to guide future decisions on land use development.
